Angel Mel Selector was born and bred in the heart and soul of the Bristol music scene. Coming from the West Country with her roots are firmly planted in Reggae, Drum & Bass and Trip Hop, later branching into other areas of underground dance music genres, such as Acid Jazz, Broken Beat and Deep and Soulful House.
She refers to herself as a selector and specialises in playing long sets where she can weave her magic. Choosing the juiciest cuts from a wide cross-section of music including; Soul, Funk, Rare Groove, Boogie, Disco, Soulful & Deep Afro House, Garage, Electronica, party anthems and Club Classics. She is like a chameleon and can play most genres with enthusiasm due to her outstanding and diverse knowledge of music.
Angel Mel says “I believe the music should be played the way it was intended without tricks or gimmicks; and by reading the crowd and making sure my sets are fun and inclusive, giving the audience the best experience. With a big smile and infectious energy and dance moves, I bring the ingredients to make any event a night to remember.”
As well as being a professional DJ Selector, Angel has worked on local radio for many years, from BCfm to Soul Train Radio and now here on Ujima Radio, Bristol’s number 1 station.

A multi-talented creative, Asher is a professional DJ, MC, host and photographer. He was brought up in South London on a mix of gospel, folk, soul, RnB and rare groove. He also loved reggae from an early age, although he wasn’t allowed to play it in the house.
Asher has been with Ujima since the very beginning and has produced and presented shows covering genres from bluebeat, ska, world music, afro beats and many more.
For the last 3 years his Sunday show “The Journi” has explored the many different branches of Jazz which Asher points out is interconnected with so many other musical genres – influencing some styles and drawing heavily from others.

Tommy is a vinyl DJ specialising in Disco, Soul and Funk and has played in many Bristol clubs including a ten year residency on the nightclub ship, the Thekla.
As a Youth and Community worker Tommy has been at the forefront of many citywide Community projects.
