‘The Word’ is a live magazine-style chat show with guests from all walks of life, from politicians to performers, activists to actors, from the streets to the boardroom, amplifying voices and views that all too often go unheard, addressing issues that challenge the status quo.  Miranda’s guests have recently included Sharon Marley, eldest daughter of Bob Marley,  Grammy nominated Singer/Producer Vikter Duplaix, Mercury Prize Winner Roni Size plus the ‘Man behind the lens’ internationally renowned photographer Beezer, just to name a few.  With over 35 years in the radio and music industries, 20 years as a Club DJ, Miranda’s network reaches far and wide, including regular Bristol’s OG’s of  what is known as the ‘Bristol Sound’ promising you exciting featured guests that often won’t do interviews with anyone else.  Miranda is also commited to givng a voice to the voiceless, pioneering new music locally and nationally.  Her passion and knowledge of music is infectious, from original Soundsystem culture to reggae to Hip Hop, Soul, Neo Soul, Funk, Drum & Bass, House, Garage, Dub, Afrobeats, Dancehall and so much more including being the first person to play jungle on the legal airwaves, Miranda’s knowledge of music pans over 4 decades and the 1990’s were without doubt her decade,  so you can also be certain of a wicked selection of music every week.

Are you ready for the accolades, though? Check this out: Miranda Rae has an impressive career in radio, TV, film, journalism and of course, music!

Miranda’s work has seen her win a Sony Award (Oscars of radio), 2 x Lovie Awarda, Webby Honouree and Best Radio Podcast in the British Podcast Awards as well as being nominated for the ARIAS. Miranda won Positive Gender Role Model in the Bristol Diversity Awards, Best TV/Radio Presenter in the MMG Awards and nominated 3 x for National Diversity Awards. Miranda has been committed to addressing issues of gender and race inequality for her entire career and continues to fight against social injustice on and off air.  Miranda’s career in radio started with FTP Radio, the UK’s 1st Pirate station to win a legal license, 6 months ahead of Kiss FM in London. At just 18 she became Promotions Manager for FTP . She went on to be Music Coordinator for Europe’s biggest free festival, Ashton Court Festival for 2 years and went on to help set up the UK’s 1st all female radio station,  Fem FM. Miranda was one of the first female radio presenters & her career rocketed when she joined Galaxy Radio and was broadcasting to 3.5 million people 6 nights a week for most of the 90’s.  With exclusive interviews with the likes of Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry & Smith & Mighty. Miranda has also worked with Omar, Wu Tang Clan, Goldie, Tribe Called Quest, Dream Warriors, The Shamen, Roy Ayres, Gill Scott Heron, plus Mercury Prize winners  Roni Size, Krust, Onallee, DJ Suv, Die (Gutterfunk) Dynamite MC to name a few. With a weekly show on BBC Radio 5 Miranda’s career has spanned almost 4 decades and included Club Dj-ing all over the globe.  Miranda was proud to DJ and host at Glasatonbury Festival for many years and has curated and hosted many festival stages and club nights, most recently, for the last 4 years Miranda has curated stages at Europes largest free festival and biggest event outside of London, The Bristol Harbour Festival with over 250,000 atttending.  And in 2026 was proud to relaunch the events side of Sound Women Bristol with a 2 hour takeover on the main stage.  Miranda also hosts events and for the last 4 years has commentated for the Bristol Harbour Festival to crowds of over 10,000. Now settled back in the UK her passion and love for radio is now shared with listeners of Ujima Radio every Friday 4-6pm.

Miranda was honoured to be asked to take on Sound Women South West in 2016 & in October 2019 due to popular demand founded Sound Women Bristol CIC, as well as a training platform, networking and support for women & girls, Sound Women is production company with 5 major award winning series under their belt in just 3 years, check out the website below for more information.
