Spread Love Show w/ Angel Mel

Angel Mel Selector  was born and bred in the heart and soul of the Bristol music scene. Coming from the West Country with her roots are firmly planted in Reggae, Drum & Bass and Trip Hop, later branching into other areas of underground dance music genres, such as Acid Jazz, Broken Beat and Deep and Soulful House.

She refers to herself as a selector and specialises in playing long sets where she can weave her magic. Choosing the juiciest cuts from a wide cross-section of music including; Soul, Funk, Rare Groove, Boogie, Disco, Soulful & Deep Afro House, Garage, Electronica, party anthems and Club Classics. She is like a chameleon and can play most genres with enthusiasm due to her outstanding and diverse knowledge of music.

Angel Mel says “I believe the music should be played the way it was intended without tricks or gimmicks; and by reading the crowd and making sure my sets are fun and inclusive, giving the audience the best experience. With a big smile and infectious energy and dance moves, I bring the ingredients to make any event a night to remember.”

As well as being a professional DJ Selector, Angel has worked on local radio for many years, from BCfm to Soul Train Radio and now here on Ujima Radio, Bristol’s number 1 station.

1st Saturday of every month is Xcel DJ – playing an exclusive mix of back to back new releases/reggae/one drop. We are so proud to welcome Xcel DJ to Ujima Radio, daughter of the pioneering and iconic Ranking Miss P and niece of Rita Marley.

12-1am – Peter D Rose – Smith & Mighty

Every 2nd Saturday of the month will be Peter D Rose from Smith & Mighty & More Rockers.  Playing a mix of 140’s, dub, reggae, jungle and electronica. Peter D is one of the pioneers and originators of the world renowned Bristol Sound!

 

 

12-1am – Flynn Ites

3rd Saturday of the month is DJ & Producer, Flynn Ites. Flynn Ites one of the originators of the Bristol Sound in the mix for 1 hr. From Hip Hop to DnB Flynn has represented with his own style of electronica. Kicking off his trailblazing career with Fresh Four and the timeless track “Wishing on a Star” produced by Smith & Mighty to the years of DJ-ing with Jungle Pioneer Flora.

 

12-1am Ray Keith – last Saturday of the Month

Ray Keith is a British drum and bass DJ and record producer. He is one of the genre’s most well known producers and DJs and is regarded as one of the pivotal figures in the early jungle/drum and bass scene, don’t miss this monthly mix from DnB legend, Ray Keith.

BLACKOUT JA is BACK on Ujima Radio every Weds 10pm till Midnight!

Blackout JA adds his unique vocals and lyrical toasting to Ujima Radio as he brings a rich musical heritage to the airwaves. Born in Portland, Jamaica, Christopher Hendricks grew up in a musical household; his mother sang on the church choir and his father played a sound system called Universe, from Portland. After winning many local DJ competitions, Blackout JA moved to Kingston, where he was spotted by local producer Collin Fat who produced his first single, “Question Man’. He then worked with other producers like Sly and Robbie, Castro Brown, Steven Stanley, Heavy D, Gussie Clarke and Sky High who recorded his first LP, ‘Blackout’.

Since moving to the UK, Blackout JA has worked with General Lee who became both his mentor and producer. He has performed at some of the major UK festivals like Boom Town, Shambala, Nothing Hill Carnival, St Pauls Carnival and One Love Festival and has worked alongside the legendary Ranking Joe, Big Youth, Tappa Zuki, Buju Banton, Freddy McGregor, Culture, Mighty Diamond, Sean Paul, Bounty Killa, Alpha Blonde and Daddy Freddy.

Are you ready for the accolades, though? Check this out: Miranda Rae has an impressive career in radio, TV, film and of course, music!

Miranda’s work has seen her win a Sony Award (Oscar’s of radio), a Lovie Award, Webby Honouree and Best Radio Podcast in the British Podcast Awards 2022 as well as being nominated for the ARIAS 2022.  Miranda’s career in radio started with FTP Radio, the UK’s 1st Pirate station to win a legal license, 6 months ahead of Kiss FM in London. At just 18 she became Promotions Manager for FTP . She went on to be Music Coordinator for Europe’s biggest free festival, Ashton Court Festival for 2 years and went on to help set up the UK’s 1st all female radio station,  Fem FM. Miranda was one of the first female radio presenters & her career rocketed when she joined Galaxy Radio and was broadcasting to 3.5 million people 6 nights a week for most of the 90’s.  With exclusive interviews with the likes of Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry & Smith & Mighty. Miranda has also worked with Omar, Wu Tang Clan, Goldie, Tribe Called Quest, Dream Warriors, The Shamen, Roy Ayres, Gill Scott Heron, plus Mercury Prize winners  Roni Size, Krust, Onallee, DJ Suv, Die (Gutterfunk) Dynamite MC to name a few.
