We Are Hiring: Business Development Manager

Part-Time | Bristol (Hybrid/Flexible) | Service Contract | £45,500 pro rata (£26,000 for 20 hours/week)


Ujima Radio is entering a powerful new phase — and we’re looking for a Business Development Manager to help turn vision into sustainable growth.

Ujima Radio is a leading African Heritage community radio station based in Bristol, dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices and creating platforms for cultural expression, dialogue, and social change.

This is more than a sales role. It’s an opportunity to build partnerships, unlock new income streams, and help scale one of the UK’s leading African Heritage community media platforms into a financially resilient media house.


About the Role

This is a strategic role focused on developing and diversifying income streams while ensuring alignment with Ujima’s mission and values.

You will work closely with senior leadership to:

  • Develop and implement a business development strategy
  • Generate income through partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising
  • Explore new income streams including training, consultancy, and media services
  • Develop membership and subscription models
  • Build long-term strategic relationships across corporate, cultural, and media sectors
  • Monitor performance and report to senior leadership and the Board
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting systems

About You

We are looking for someone who is both commercially minded and values-driven, with the ability to generate income while supporting community impact.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in business development, fundraising, or sales
  • Strong professional networks and partnership-building experience
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Experience developing income-generating strategies
  • Understanding of community media or similar sectors
  • IT proficiency (MS Office, planning tools)

Desirable:

  • Experience in media, cultural, or creative industries
  • Knowledge of African Heritage communities
  • Experience in the voluntary, charity, or social enterprise sector
  • Knowledge of digital income streams and social media
  • Familiarity with AI tools
